MNN Memorial Lecture 5

The fifth lecture in the Prof. M N Neelakantan Memorial Lecture Series was given by Dr Benny George Kenkireth, Assistant Professor, Dept of CSE, IIT Guwahati and an NITC alumnus on the topic “A panoramic view of matching algorithms under preferences” on 29-09-2015,Tuesday in the CSED Seminar Hall.

Dr Benny George Kenkireth,an alumnus of Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, is the recipient of Microsoft Outstanding Young Faculty Award in 2011. His main research interests include word combinatorics, combinatorics, algorithms and randomness in computation.

The lecture focused on various aspects of matching algorithms like Gale-Shapeley algorithm, the stability of matching and on various practical examples of matching problems.

The talk was attended by faculty, staff and students of  NIT Calicut. The lecture was presided over by Dr K A Abdul Nazeer,HoD,CSED. Dr. Vinod Pathari, Asst. Professor, CSED spoke about  Prof. M.N Neelakantan and his services to NIT Calicut and CSE Department .The event came to a close with an interactive session with the speaker and a photo session.

CSED has organized an expert lecture on the topic- OSDDlinux: A Customized Operating System for Drug Discovery  by Dr. G P S Raghava, Scientist and Head of Bioinformatics centre at IMTECH, Chandigarh

Profile of the speaker:

                        Dr.G P S Raghava, Scientist and Head of Bioinformatics centre at Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), Chandigarh, India. He did M.Sc from Meerut University, M.Tech from IIT Delhi PhD from IMTECH Chandigarh. He worked as Postdoctoral fellow at Oxford University UK (1996-98), Bioinformatics specialist at UAMS, USA (2002-3& 2006) and visiting professor at POSTECH, South Korea (2004).

Industrial Training by SAP LABS

As per the Industry collaboration with SAP LABS Bangalore, CSED has organized two invited lectures on 26.11.2013.

The details of the talks are as follows:

1.      Non Functional Testing

Resource Person: Mr.Ganesh Moorthy Duraisamy

Mr.Ganesh Moorthy Duraisamy has 8 years of IT experience in performance analysis, Sizing of ABAP and JAVA Applications. He was selected as a High Potential employee for the year 2012 from SAP LABS India.

 

2.      Big Data and Mobile Testing

Resource Person: Bevita Serrao

Ms. Bevita Serrao is a B.E. graduate from VTU and currently working as an Associate Manager at Suite Test Center at SAP Labs India. She is currently working on the Performance Testing of the Mobile applications.

          

  The talk was well attended by the Students, Faculties and Staff members of the CSE department.

ADOPTION OF CLOUD COMPUTING

 
 
The  Fourth lecture in the Prof. M N Neelakantan Memorial Lecture Series was given by Sri. Sreekrishnan Venkateswaran,  Program Director,IBM   and an NITC alumnus on the topic ADOPTION OF CLOUD COMPUTING on 7-11-2013 Thursday at  3.30 pm in the CSED Seminar Hall. Mr. Sreekrishnan Venkateswaran is a program director at IBM, leading a world wide team of architects who deliver cloud solutions to large enterprise customers. He has been with IBM for 18 years, working on projects ranging from cloud computing and 4G telecom, to consumer electronics, health care, and wireless communication. Sreekrishnan has authored a best-selling book on embedded Linux that has made a mark world wide. He has also been a contributing editor and kernel columnist to the Linux Magazine for several years. Sreekrishnan holds a Masters in Computer Engineering from IIT Kanpur and a B.Tech in Computer Science& Engineering from NIT Calicut
 
The talk was attended by faculty, staff and students of  NIT Calicut. Mr. Vinod Pathari, Asst. Professor, CSED spoke on Prof. M.N Neelakantan's services to NIT Calicut . Dr. S.D Madhu Kumar, Head of the CSE department presented a memento to the speaker. Th event came to an end at5.15 pm.

Workshop on Leadership Training

 
 
 

Computer Science & Engineering Association has organized a workshop on Leadership Training  29th October from 2-5pm. The resource person was Mr. Sankar Krishnan.  Sankar Krishnan is a former partner of McKinsey & Company, who led McKinsey’s  healthcare practice, initially in India (located in Mumbai) from 2000 to 2004,and then in Greater China (located in Hong Kong) from 2004 to 2006. Sankar holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad graduating in the top 5 of his class (1992). He has a B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Kerala, finishing college first, and University third rank across all branches.

 There was a total Participation of 40  selected students from various streams- MTECH,MCA,MBA & B.Tech divided into few groups. The Entire Session was very Interactive and interesting. The participants got a small glimpse of corporate leadership and later there was a small session on Consultancy as a career option for a selected few interested participants.

Talk on Content Based Networking by Dr. Alexander Wolf

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted a talk by Dr. Alexander Wolf, Professor in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London (UK), Vice President of the Association for Computing Machinery  and  a member of the Executive Committee  of the ACM Council. He  is one of the very few  persons in the world,  who is the fellow of both ACM and IEEE. The  event was organized  by Computer Science and Engineering Association, NITC and NITC ACM Students Chapter.  Prof. Wolf  is an ACM Distinguished Speaker and his visit was facilitated by ACM India council.The lecture was on Content Based Networking, and was attended by faculty  and students from all departments. Prof. Wolf also had an interaction with the faculty  and students of the CSE department after the lecture.

Open Virtualization and the Cloud by Supriya Kanneri

The third lecture in the Prof. M N Neelakantan Memorial Lecture Series was given by Supriya Kanneri, Advisory Software Engineer, IBM and an NITC alumnus on the topic "Open Virtualization and the Cloud". Supriya Kannery has been working with Linux kernel support and validation of KVM for cloud solutions at Linux Technology Centre, IBM for 5 plus years. The event was organised by the NITC ACM Students chapter and Computer Science and Engineering department, in memory of Prof. M N Neelakantan, who was the first Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in NITC.

The lecture was attended by students and faculty members from various departments.

Talk on "Cyber Crimes and Cyber Forensics"

A Talk on "Cyber Crimes and Cyber Forensics" was organized by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter and Computer Science & Engineering Association, NIT Calicut and presented by Dr. P Vinod Bhattathirippad, Cyber Forensic Consultant  to police, judiciary income tax department and banks in India and abroad on cvil/criminal cases concerning software priracy and digital data recovery issues, since 2007. He is the first Asian and one among the very few in the world with a Doctorate in forensic area.

The talk was on the topics of Cyber crime in general, Jurisdiction against cyber crime and Dr. Vinod also shared instances from his experiences as a Cyber-Expert Witness. He also inaugurated the CSEA website and the CSEA wiki.
