Obituary - Prof M N Neelakantan (1940-2012)

The faculty, staff and students of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, NIT Calicut are deeply grieved by the sudden and unexpected demise of the founder of the department, our first Professor and Head, Prof M N Neelakantan, at Thrissur, yesterday (20/2/2012) morning, due to heart failure.

 

Prof Neelakantan served the institute in various capacities -  Dean (Administration), Professor in Computer Engineering, Professor in Electrical Engineering, Head of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering departments, among others. He superannuated from REC Calicut in 2002,  after over three decades dedicated to teaching  thousands of REC students.

 

His dynamism, energy and enthusiasm is well known to RECians, and he was the motivating force behind many progressive steps in the institute and the department. Our welfare and progress were always among the topmost in his thoughts, and he visited the department and institute whenever he came to Calicut.

 

He is survived by his wife, two sons and their families, which includes four grandchildren. We offer our condolences to the bereaved family.
