Invited Lecture by Prof.Rajeev R.Raje, IUPUI

CSED is pleased to announce that  Dr. Rajeev R. Raje, a senior Professor in the Computer and Information Science  Dept. of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)  is visiting NITC on 2nd January 2018. CSEA is arranging a talk by the Professor on  Studies  and  Research Opportunities  at IUPUI .  He  would also be  discussing the topic - "Current Research Efforts in Developing High Confidence Distributed Software Systems"  during the second session of the talk.

REConnect 2017

 

 

 

Thirty members from the 1997 batch of B.Tech visited the campus on 29th July 2017. CSEA hosted the alumni  meet and had arranged a panel discussion and campus tour for the visiting alumni and their family members. Dr.Mansoor Alicherry, Engineering Manager, Google,  led the panel discussion.

 

The panellists were Mr. Manmohan Singh - UBS Group Operations (SCD) India Head, Mr.  Ramashankar Pandey - Managing Director, Hella India Lighting Ltd, Ms. Shilpa Narayan - Scrum Master/Project Manager, Hive, Centrica, UK,  Mr. Rajesh Ravindranath, Senior Vice-President, ITC and  Head of Europe for Banking &Financial Services, and Mr. Soni P.M,  Tech Lead ( IC role), Cisco.


 Senior faculty members from CSE, EEE and ECE departments were present in the function which was held in the CSED Seminar Hall.

RECAMPUS ‘92

 

Silver Jubilee Reunion of the 1992 B.Tech Batch of NIT Calicut was held on 5th August. There were 12 members from the 1992 B.Tech CSE branch among the alumni who visited the Institute. They were given a warm reception in the department. The alumni shared their experiences and had discussion with the faculty and students of the department.

IT Industry, Latest trends and Opportunities

An MoU was signed between NITC and TCS. Mr. Santhosh C Kurup (Branch Head, TCS Kochi) delivered an orientation to the IT industry, making the students aware about the latest trends in the corporate sector and the IT industry, and also describing how TCS works, hence answering all the basic questions which revolve in every student's mind from placement point of view.

Talk by Dr.Mansoor Allichery On Bitcoins: Story Of Cryptocurrency

Dr. Masoor Alicherry, Vice President of Engineering at Vizury Interactive Solution Pvt. Ltd. gave an expert lecture on Bitcoins: Story Of Cryptocurrency on 1st April 2014. Bitcoin is a peer to peer payment system introduced as open source in 2009. It is also known as a decentralized virtual currency as it is not controlled by any bank or government enterprises. The lecture covered the history as well as the technological overview of Bitcoins. While Bitcoins uses SHA-2 256 bit hashing and Digital Signature, it still faces scrutiny for illegal activities that took place in recent time.

Talk on Content Based Networking by Dr. Alexander Wolf

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted a talk by Dr. Alexander Wolf, Professor in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London (UK), Vice President of the Association for Computing Machinery  and  a member of the Executive Committee  of the ACM Council. He  is one of the very few  persons in the world,  who is the fellow of both ACM and IEEE. The  event was organized  by Computer Science and Engineering Association, NITC and NITC ACM Students Chapter.  Prof. Wolf  is an ACM Distinguished Speaker and his visit was facilitated by ACM India council.The lecture was on Content Based Networking, and was attended by faculty  and students from all departments. Prof. Wolf also had an interaction with the faculty  and students of the CSE department after the lecture.

Open Virtualization and the Cloud by Supriya Kanneri

The third lecture in the Prof. M N Neelakantan Memorial Lecture Series was given by Supriya Kanneri, Advisory Software Engineer, IBM and an NITC alumnus on the topic "Open Virtualization and the Cloud". Supriya Kannery has been working with Linux kernel support and validation of KVM for cloud solutions at Linux Technology Centre, IBM for 5 plus years. The event was organised by the NITC ACM Students chapter and Computer Science and Engineering department, in memory of Prof. M N Neelakantan, who was the first Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in NITC.

The lecture was attended by students and faculty members from various departments.

Workshop on “Software Product Engineering” by TCS

A five member team from Tata Consultancy Services visited the Computer Science and Engineering Department on 11th January, 2013. The team consisted of Dr Suman Bhattacharya, Component Engineering Group, Debiprasad Swain, Head, Engineering Services Group, Ms. Reeja Goerge, Academic Relationship Manager – Kerala, TCS and two other employees of TCS. The talk began at 10:00 AM at CSED Seminar Hall after a formal welcome by Dr. S D Madhukumar, HOD of CSED.

Dr. Suman took the lead of the workshop. He worked on latest trends in Software Product Engineering, with special reference to those used by TCS. He added that TCS is now into Product Engineering, specifying the challenges and needs of today. He motivated the students to pursue Internships at TCS and offered the best experience. The talk ended with an FAQ session where students raised some technical as well as non-technical doubts to which Dr. Suman replied appropriately. There were a total of 60 attendees.

Talk on "Cyber Crimes and Cyber Forensics"

A Talk on "Cyber Crimes and Cyber Forensics" was organized by NIT Calicut ACM Student Chapter and Computer Science & Engineering Association, NIT Calicut and presented by Dr. P Vinod Bhattathirippad, Cyber Forensic Consultant  to police, judiciary income tax department and banks in India and abroad on cvil/criminal cases concerning software priracy and digital data recovery issues, since 2007. He is the first Asian and one among the very few in the world with a Doctorate in forensic area.

The talk was on the topics of Cyber crime in general, Jurisdiction against cyber crime and Dr. Vinod also shared instances from his experiences as a Cyber-Expert Witness. He also inaugurated the CSEA website and the CSEA wiki.
