Report on Aakash for Education Workshop at Department of CSE, NIT Calicut

Along with 250 technical institutions all over India, Department of Computer Science and Engineering at NIT Calicut also joined in the novel and unique initiative of Ministry of Human Resource and Development, Government of India by hosting the first workshop on the world renowned low-cost tablet computers AakashThe workshop was conducted by IIT Bombay through distance mode, using the A-VIEW system. Main aim of the workshop was to introduce Aakash and its use to faculty members from various technical institutes in classroom teaching and learning.

The workshop started at 8AM of 10th Nov 2012 with the registration of 24 enthusiastic faculty members from various departments of NIT Calicut. The inauguration of the workshop by Prof. Devang Khakhar, Director IIT Bombay started at 9:05AM, followed by talk on Introduction to Aakash project by Prof. Deepak B Phatak. Later technical team from IIT Bombay demonstrated Aakash education applications.

Talk on Rainbow Coloring of Graphs by Dr. L Sunil Chandran

The second lecture in the Prof. M N Neelakantan Memorial Lecture Series was given by Prof. L. Sunil. Chandran, Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science and Automation, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and an NITC alumnus on the topic Rainbow Colouring of Graphs. He received his BTech from National Institute of Technology, Calicut. He was selected to be a Member of National Academy of Sciences (NASI), India (M.N.A.Sc), 2010 and was awarded with MSR India Outstanding Young faculty Award (2009,2010) by IISc (given for faculty members below the age 40) . With being Selected as Associate of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore (2009-2012), he received NASI Young Scientist Platinum Jubilee award (2008) by National Academy of Science, India (NASI), Allahabad and was given Infosys Fellowship (1999-2002) by IISc (given for Ph.D students). He has more than fifty Journal Papers and about thirty conference papers published in various national and international conferences.
The lecture was attended by students and faculty members from various departments.
